Off to a Good Start: 2022 RPPL Recap

For the first quarter of 2022 we’ve welcomed Community Impact Artist Christina McField. Christina has had the opportunity to engage with the Utica community during her residency and uncover small town gems. While finishing the development of new and old pieces, McField says the residency came right on time for this point in her art career. Recently, McField hosted a solo exhibition at the Delta Arts Alliance in Clarksdale, Ms and co-produced The Art of Wellness with a panel discussion about the parallels of art and mental wellness in Jackson, Ms.

Artists in Residence Annette Hollowell and free feral are progressing their piece “We are the Promise Land” and we look forward to this magical moment to unfold for each artist. We are the Promise Land is a multimedia exploration of Black inheritance in Mississippi’s Hill Country. Recap from their first visit here.

Visiting Artist Brian Egland arrived bearing staple gifts from Louisiana hot sauce, beignet mix from Cafe Du Monde, and authentic french bread all from his home state. Brian has finished casting for a Virtual Workshop in his new play that was recently finished, Where the Suga Still Sweet.

It is always a pleasure to host each artist throughout the stages of their work. We are anticipating the June 2022 arrival of Visiting Artist Salaam Green. A Poet, Storyteller, and Founder of Literary Healing Arts.
