BIO:
Dardar is a multi-media artist exploring the quilting of experience into a tapestry of visual memory. She is a New Media enthusiast, interaction designer and a member of the United Houma Nation. Her work supports process development, community-based design, language revitalization, indigenous media, and memory documentation.
PROJECT:
Zeenery is a permutation of a long-term project which brings a four-year body of work into public view. Since 2019, Dardar has developed a body of 150 watercolor sketches which represent lucid emotional moments within the artist’s life. This collection is the first work from this young (in experience, not age) artist. Each sketch is ~6×6 in, and currently are displayed as a tapestry of squares on a large wall within the artists’ private studio in Sunset, Louisiana. This body of work is partially visible on the online Zeenery Telegram channel. This is intentionally not widely publicized, and the artist is cautious about digital use of such personal sentiments. Dardar sees this work as a crucial first collection within their practice as an artist, and would like to explore expanding this currently private collection into a “offline” public art.
Within the RPPL residency, Dardar would like to physically expand the collection by selecting 3-5 pieces to revisit and paint on a 4ftx4ft scale. She has brought one emotionally critical piece up to this scale, using a projector, paper, and acrylic. This residency would give her the space and time to explore revisiting other relevant pieces, and creating a small public show to share this work and the emotional landscapes they represent for the first time. Undertaking this work within a residency such as RPPL would provide the artistic sounding board and guidance this artist would need to take their first steps within this larger direction.
