
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Line cook with Pastry and Dessert experience to join our team. Other than being able to perform line cook responsibilities, your expertise in preparing a variety of desserts and pastries, combined with your creative flair in developing unique tastes and recipes, will be essential in accomplishing the Cultural Center’s needs.
As an ideal candidate, you should have a background or experience in culinary arts and a genuine passion for creating sweet and delectable dishes and treats. Join us in creating memorable moments through the art of pastry-making.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of food and beverage for the catered and dining menus for events and daily food service. You will work closely with the Lead Cook and Facilities Manager to ensure all culinary needs are met to satisfaction.
- Prepare variety of pastries such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes
- Create new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers
- Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting
- Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget
- Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
- Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards
- Cross-training and assisting in main line cooking areas as needed.
Requirements and skills
- Experience as a Line Cook, Pastry Cook, Baker or relevant role
- Great attention to detail and creativity
- Organizing and leadership skills
- Willingness to replenish professional knowledge
- In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition
- Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
- Credentials in health and safety training (ServSafe Food Manager, ServSafe Food Handler, or other accredited training recognized by the State of Mississippi) is a plus
- Willingness to obtain Food Safety certification if not yet achieved.
